Esseboats
Enjoy pure sailing fun, without much effort, with a small crew or alone - with a ship that not only bobbles, but sails even with very little wind. And that is safe, stable and yet fast in strong winds. Josef Schuchter had felt this desire for a long time. There was no corresponding concept on the international boat market. Anyone who valued excellent sailing characteristics had to choose a boat that required a larger crew.
After discussions with various designers, Josef Schuchter felt that Umberto Felci understood him best. At the end of October 2003, the lines were defined and the development team, consisting of Felci Design, the Proteus shipyard on Lake Garda and Schuchter Sportboot AG, worked out all the detailed solutions, while the negative forms of the Esse 850 were already being created.
After an intensive development period, construction number 1 of the Esse 850 was watered in on March 3, 2004. The boat worked perfectly from the start. The desired simple handling, combined with the boat lying very delicately at the rudder, conveyed great sailing fun from the very first moment.
Just one week later, the Esse 850 proved how fast it was at a winter regatta in Lugano. Despite considerable competition, Josef Schuchter and his team won the first race with the Esse 850 SUI-001 without having made any speed comparisons at all beforehand. Further regatta successes followed in the same year, the highlight being the European Championship for sports boats with participants from seven nations. Three Esse 850s started and ended up taking first and second place. Even before the Esse 850 completed its final tests in Barcelona, the eleven leading European yachting magazines nominated the boat for the "European boat of the year" award. In February 2005, on the occasion of the "Boot" in Düsseldorf, Schuchter Sportboot AG was awarded the coveted award.
Schuchter Sportboot AG continued the successful concept of the Esse 850 and, with the Esse 990 and the Esse 750, developed further unique sailing boats that combine sporty sailing with perfect functionality and easy handling.
Today, Esseboats yachts are at home in many regions around the world, from the Baltic Sea to southern France and the USA. Separate regatta series have been established for both the Esse 850 and the Esse 750, with attractive events in Monaco, on Lake Maggiore, Lake Geneva, Lake Garda and Lake Constance, as well as Lake Zurich, among others.
